Transport Sync

Tuesday, July 08, 2014

It would really churlish to go through the minor niggles with Connected Data's latest offering, the Transporter Sync. "Churlish" however turns out to be one of my middle names, so here goes.

I don't like the UI graphics. Oh, and I'd prefer USB 3.0 support.

Apart from which, Transporter Sync turns out to be pretty much a no-brainer addition on the kit-that-pays-for-itself list.

Bento Replacements

Friday, January 17, 2014

FileMaker must really have believed that killing Bento was an economic decision; that the revenues from users' trade-ups to FileMaker Pro and the marketing & development savings would outweigh lost sales. By now they'll have the numbers, and know. Does Bento's demise leave a gap in the Mac ecosystem though? Do people need a low cost, easily customisable database for the Mac?

FileMaker are making a clear effort to rehabilitate that unlucky number, 13. Their latest version offers new features, improvements to existing features, and solid solutions to nagging issues that reamined unresolved in version 12. Oh, and some seriously useful eye-candy.

FileMaker Pro 13

Monday, December 02, 2013

With this latest release, FileMaker have sought to broaden their user-base – companies with a need for in-house developed web-applications. Version 12 layouts looked the same on the desktop client as the web - v13 goes one better: layouts now act the same. Almost everything you created for the standard client (Mac, iOS or Windows) works in the web browser too, often without the need for any coding: drag and drop file upload, live data updates (without a manual page refresh), and scripts triggered when field is edited.
